Sterling One Foundation Launches Million Tree Initiative

Sterling One Foundation, led by Chief Executive Officer Olapeju Ibekwe, launched a million tree planting initiative in Kaduna, coinciding with World Environment Day. The initiative aims to restore the environment and promote inclusive climate action, emphasizing the importance of community participation and economic empowerment, particularly for women.

Ibekwe highlighted that the project will deliver multi-generational impacts and is part of a broader commitment to combat rapid deforestation and biodiversity loss in Nigeria. The initiative is designed to address the ecological deficit as Nigeria loses hundreds of thousands of hectares of forest cover annually.

Samaila Zubairu, CEO of Africa Finance Corporation, noted the need for bold actions and strong partnerships to build climate resilience. The project aligns with Nigeria's national environmental priorities and UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically targeting climate action (SDG 13), life on land (SDG 15), gender equality (SDG 5), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11).
