Sting Operation at OOPL: EFCC To Arraign 23 Suspected Internet Fraudsters Friday

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign 23 suspected internet fraudsters who were arrested at a hotel within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The suspects, who were arrested on Sunday, will be arraigned at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos on Friday, August 14.

The EFCC stated that the suspects were involved in offenses related to impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud. The agency revealed that the suspects had initially planned a pool party to celebrate their alleged criminal activities but had to relocate to the hotel within OOPL to avoid possible arrest after receiving intelligence from the EFCC.

The agency clarified that the former president's facility was not the target of the sting operation, but the focus was on the suspects who confessed to engaging in internet crimes. The remaining suspects will be arraigned in due course.
