Niger Delta Group Defends Ex-NNPCL EVP Tombomieye

The Niger Delta Movement for People’s Rights and Development (NDMPRAD) issued a statement on Tuesday in Warri, condemning allegations made against Adokiy Tombomieye, the former Executive Vice President (EVP) of Upstream at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The South South Youth Initiative (SSYI) accused Tombomieye of involvement in the mismanagement of a $1.5 billion rehabilitation project for the Port Harcourt refinery during his tenure.

NDMPRAD dismissed these claims as baseless and riddled with mathematical errors, asserting that Tombomieye held the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Upstream and later EVP of Upstream, not Downstream as alleged. They emphasized that the refinery project falls under the Downstream division, highlighting a misunderstanding of NNPCL's organizational structure.

NDMPRAD also challenged SSYI's claims regarding financial mismanagement, stating that the allegations were part of a smear campaign aimed at discrediting public servants.
