Peter Obi Challenges Tinubu to Debate Ahead of 2027

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has publicly challenged President Bola Tinubu to engage directly with Nigerians about his plans, policies, and programs instead of using proxies. In a statement released on Tuesday by the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), Obi urged Tinubu to account for his first term in office and to communicate directly with the electorate ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement, signed by POMR Spokesman Idris Zekeri, accused Tinubu of preparing for a second term without adequately meeting with the public and suggested that he might rely on ministers and political allies for his campaign. The POMR criticized Tinubu's absence from the National Peace Accord convened by the National Peace Committee, labeling it disrespectful.

The media office emphasized that the 2027 election should involve direct engagement between candidates and the electorate, asserting that political surrogates cannot replace this essential interaction.
