Nigerian Farmers and CSOs Call for Halt to $2.5bn JBS Deal for Meat Factories

Nigerian farmers and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are urging the government to halt the implementation of a $2.5 billion deal with JBS, a Brazilian multinational corporation, to construct six new meat factories in Nigeria. They demand comprehensive independent Environmental Impact Assessments, Social Impact Assessments, and mandatory community consultations.

JBS aims to address food insecurity and promote socioeconomic progress through this investment. The deal includes plans for three poultry factories, two beef factories, and one pork factory.

JBS Global CEO Gilberto Tomazoni highlighted the company's objective to contribute to solving food insecurity challenges.
