Matawalle Urges Opposition to Support Tinubu's Government

Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, called on opposition politicians to refrain from actions that could incite Nigerians against the constitutionally elected government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Personal Assistant on Media, Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Matawalle reacted to reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar had hired a foreign lobbying firm to disseminate old documents concerning President Tinubu in the United States. He described this action as unfortunate and detrimental to Nigeria's democracy and socio-economic challenges.

Matawalle urged opposition leaders to support government efforts in tackling insecurity and promoting national unity instead of undermining the country's image abroad. He asserted that Nigeria's democratic choices are determined by its citizens, not foreign entities.

He also referenced a commendation from former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Tinubu's leadership, suggesting it reflects growing international confidence in the administration.

Matawalle concluded by encouraging opposition parties to engage constructively rather than pursue divisive campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
