Tinubu Defends Electoral Act Against Opposition Claims

During the All Progressives Congress (APC) 4th National Convention held in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu accused opposition parties of distorting the Electoral Act for political gain. He asserted that the law did not emerge overnight and underwent a thorough legislative process, including debates and public hearings.

Tinubu emphasized that the Electoral Act reflects the collective quest to strengthen Nigeria's electoral system and consolidate democratic rule. He dismissed claims that the law is anti-democratic and warned that constant attacks on it could weaken public trust in Nigeria's democracy.

Furthermore, he addressed concerns about political competition, stating that a strong opposition is necessary for accountability and better governance. Tinubu urged APC members to focus on delivering results and warned against complacency, highlighting the importance of maintaining political strength and performance in the face of future challenges.
