Nigerian Police Respond to NLC's Rescheduled Protest in Abuja

The Nigerian Police have reacted to the rescheduling of a planned protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja. The NLC, along with the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), had organized a solidarity rally for striking workers in the Federal Capital Territory.

The police expressed concerns about potential violence during the protest, particularly mentioning the possibility of infiltration by the Shi'ite Islam sect and other non-state actors. The authorities appealed for the protest to be postponed to ensure public peace and security, emphasizing the importance of upholding residents' rights and safety.

The NLC and TUC had previously staged a peaceful rally on February 3 to show support for the ongoing indefinite strike by FCDA workers over unpaid salaries.
