Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu's Economic Policies

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar responded sharply to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's comments regarding his proposed intervention in the petroleum sector, labeling Tinubu's remarks as the "insolent sermon of a failed economic experimenter." In a statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku argued that while government revenues have increased, citizens' purchasing power has significantly declined. He criticized the Tinubu administration for implementing simultaneous shocks to fuel prices, exchange rates, and living costs, leading to increased poverty among Nigerians.

Atiku stated that Tinubu's declaration of the removal of fuel subsidies lacked a credible transition plan, resulting in soaring petrol prices and inflation. He emphasized that a government thriving financially while its citizens suffer is not reform but exploitation.

Atiku concluded by asserting that his economic proposals are not about reinstating corrupt subsidies but addressing the current economic realities.
