Tinubu's Fuel Subsidy Removal: A Bold Economic Move

Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals, asserted that President Bola Tinubu made a significant political decision by removing the fuel subsidy in Nigeria, prioritizing the nation's long-term economic recovery despite immediate hardships and backlash. Speaking during an interactive session with the All Progressives Congress Press Corps in Abuja, Alake noted that previous administrations recognized the need for subsidy removal but hesitated due to electoral fears.

He commended Tinubu for taking the political risk, stating that the subsidy primarily benefited fuel cartels and wealthy Nigerians, leaving the government with limited resources for infrastructure and other sectors. Alake remarked that genuine reforms require courage, which past governments lacked, leading to a cycle of poor economic decisions.

He emphasized that Tinubu's actions were commendable, as he chose to "take the bullets" for the nation, indicating that there is no perfect time for difficult economic decisions.
