Atiku Critiques Tinubu's Handling of Petrol Subsidy Removal

Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President of Nigeria, criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration for their handling of the petrol subsidy removal. In a statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described Tinubu's government as desperate and accused it of hypocrisy.

He noted that while Tinubu announced the end of petrol subsidies, prices surged, leading to increased transportation and food costs, and a collapse in household purchasing power. Atiku pointed out that the same administration that removed subsidies provided incentives for major petroleum investors, questioning the consistency of Tinubu's economic policies.

He referenced the NNPC's financial statements, which indicated significant energy-security expenses, suggesting that the government continued to absorb costs related to subsidies despite claims that they had ended. Atiku's statements raise concerns about the economic impact of the subsidy removal on ordinary Nigerians versus the favorable treatment of oil investors.
