Sultan Sokoto Advocates Responsible Speech for Unity

Sultan Sokoto Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar called for responsible speech among leaders to foster national unity in Nigeria. This appeal was made during his lesser pilgrimage (Umrah) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, coinciding with the 16th day of Ramadan 1447 AH.

The Sultan, who serves as the President of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, offered prayers for peace, security, and unity in Nigeria. He expressed satisfaction with the resilience of the Nigerian Muslim community despite facing challenges and persecution.

The Sultan stressed the importance of mutual respect and understanding among Nigerians as essential for achieving lasting peace and security, which are vital for national development. He also acknowledged the roles of traditional rulers and Islamic leaders in ensuring smooth religious activities, including the announcement of Ramadan moon sighting.

The statement highlighted the collaborative efforts of various leaders to maintain peace within the community.
