Amas Obasogie Faces Match-Fixing Allegations in Tanzania

Amas Obasogie, a 26-year-old goalkeeper for the Super Eagles and member of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations bronze medal-winning squad, has been implicated in a match-fixing scandal involving Tanzanian Premier League club Singida Black Star SC. The club suspended him last Friday to allow for a proper investigation into the allegations of match manipulation.

Obasogie, who joined Singida Black Star SC last year after stints with Ethiopian club Fasil Kenema, claims that the goals he conceded were due to football errors and not deliberate misconduct. He is expected to appear before a disciplinary committee to clear his name.

This situation arises shortly after former Super Eagles head coach Samson Siasia received a five-year ban from FIFA for match-fixing allegations, with his initial life ban reduced upon appeal. Eric Chell has been appointed as the head coach of the national team, while Isa Saleh expressed hope for Obasogie's vindication in the ongoing investigation.
