Super Falcons Kick Off WAFCON Title Defense Against Malawi

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will commence their title defense at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) against Malawi on July 27, 2023. The tournament, taking place in Morocco from July 26 to August 16, features 16 nations vying for regional glory and a direct ticket to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Super Falcons, led by head coach Justin Madugu, are in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and Malawi. The team includes key players such as goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and captain Rasheedat Ajibade, with a strong attacking lineup featuring Asisat Oshoala and others.

Nigeria's group stage will also see them face Zambia on July 31 and Egypt on August 4. The tournament has a total prize fund of $5.8 million, with the champions receiving $2 million.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage starting August 8.
