Super Falcons Launch Bid for 11th WAFCON Title

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will commence their defense of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title on July 28, 2023, facing tournament debutants Malawi in their opening Group C match at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat, Morocco. The tournament, which runs from July 26 to August 16, has expanded to 16 teams, making it the largest in WAFCON history.

The Super Falcons, coached by Justine Madugu, are the most successful team in the competition's history, having won nine titles and aiming for a record-extending 11th title. Their group-stage matches include a crucial encounter against Zambia on August 1 and a final group match against Egypt on August 5.

The Super Falcons are expected to leverage their extensive experience against a confident Malawi side, which is making its first appearance in the tournament. A strong start against Malawi is essential as it would set the tone for their subsequent matches, particularly against Zambia, a strong contender in African women's football.
