Super Falcons Slam CAF Over WAFCON Postponement

Players from Nigeria's Super Falcons have expressed their discontent with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the recent postponement of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to March 17 - July 25, 2026. Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, described the decision as embarrassing for women's football on the continent.

Teammate Christi Ucheibe, who plays for Benfica, also criticized the decision, questioning its implications for the competition. The postponement, which was made after consultations with stakeholders including FIFA, was attributed to unexpected logistical and organizational challenges.

This latest rescheduling adds to a growing list of frustrations surrounding the tournament, which has faced cancellations and changes since 2020. The 2026 edition will feature 16 teams for the first time and will serve as a qualifying path for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil, although players are concerned about the uncertainty this creates for their preparations.
