Super Falcons Defeat Egypt 6-2 to Reach WAFCON Quarters

On Wednesday, Nigeria’s Super Falcons achieved a resounding 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, securing their spot in the quarter-finals. The defending champions needed a convincing win after an opening loss to Malawi and a narrow victory over Zambia.

Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring with a penalty in the 21st minute, followed by Gift Monday's goal in first-half stoppage time. Egypt's Nadine Ghazi scored a penalty just before halftime, reducing Nigeria's lead to 2-1.

In the second half, Uchenna Kanu scored with an assist from Rinsola Babajide, and Christy Ucheibe converted another penalty. Although Ghazi scored again for Egypt, Rasheedat Ajibade restored Nigeria's three-goal cushion before Joy Omewa completed the scoring in stoppage time.

Nigeria finished the group stage with six points, while Egypt ended without a point. The Super Falcons now await their quarter-final opponents as they aim for an 11th WAFCON title.
