PDP BoT Assumes Leadership After Supreme Court Ruling

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), under the leadership of Wabara, has taken over the party's leadership following a Supreme Court ruling on Thursday. The court's decision, which upheld the suspension of the national secretary and other officials, left the PDP without recognized leadership.

This move is intended to avoid a leadership vacuum within the party. The ruling was described as an unpleasant judgment by former lawmakers, who argued that the Supreme Court's decision invalidated the outcomes of the November 2025 national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which produced Kabiru Tanimu Turaki as the head of the national working committee.

Wabara stated that the BoT's takeover is in accordance with the PDP constitution and aims to stabilize the party. An emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) will be convened to appoint an interim national working committee to manage the party's affairs ahead of the 2026 elections, ensuring PDP fields candidates for the 2027 general elections.
