Surge in Killings Across Nigeria Due to 2027 Polls – Defence Chief Musa

Chief Defence Staff General Christopher Musa attributed the recent surge in killings across Nigeria to political activities ahead of the 2027 general election. In an interview with Channels Television Politics Today, Musa highlighted a correlation between the rise in insecurity and heightened political engagement.

He expressed concern over the sudden increase in deaths, emphasizing the need for peace and good governance. Musa also mentioned the collaboration between bandits and terrorists to destabilize communities, with both local and foreign funding sustaining their operations.

Criticizing the slow prosecution of terrorism cases, he called for the establishment of a special court for faster trials and harsher penalties. Additionally, Musa raised alarm about the porous borders and the influx of weapons from conflict zones, urging caution in welcoming foreigners due to the potential threat of insurgents disguising themselves as visitors.

He welcomed President Bola Tinubu's approval of the Defence Industrial Bill, which would facilitate the local manufacturing of military equipment in collaboration with original equipment manufacturers.
