Suspected Herders Kill Four in Benue Community Attack

On Sunday morning, four people were killed in a fresh attack by suspected herders in the Aila Odugheho area of Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State. The victims were ambushed while walking along the Aila Odugheho road.

Local sources identified the deceased as Ochefij, Elijah, Ojema, Igojuju, Husaini, Odiya, Ochowehi, and Ochoyoda Adejo. Melvin Ejeh, the chairman of Agatu Local Government Area, confirmed the attack, stating that the presence of security operations in the area made it difficult for armed herders to invade the community, leading them to resort to ambush tactics.

Ejeh noted that robust security strategies had been implemented to protect the community. Clearance operations are currently ongoing to rid the community's forests of bandits.

DSP Udem Edet from the state police public relations office mentioned that she had not yet received reports regarding the incident, and efforts to contact the Agatu division police officer were unsuccessful. This attack follows a previous incident where gunmen invaded Olegabulu community, killing a traditional ruler, his wife, son, and two others.
