Youths Burn 18 Houses in Taraba Community Attack

On March 9, suspected youths set ablaze no fewer than 18 thatch houses in Tompo Village, located in the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba. The incident occurred in the early hours and was reported by resident Zaki Thoma Yamusa.

The attack is believed to have been carried out by youths who speak the Kuteb language, targeting homes belonging to Tiv residents who had recently returned to the area. This return followed a prolonged crisis between the Tiv and Kuteb communities that began in 2006.

Despite the destruction of the houses, which included food grains and valuable items like mobile phones, no casualties were recorded during the attack. A police team visited the scene for preliminary investigations and took photographs.

The village head has invited the police to help prevent further escalation of the situation, and an intelligence surveillance team has been deployed to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Command has intensified efforts to ensure the situation does not lead to a wider community crisis.
