Militia Attack in Taraba Claims Lives of 3 Officers, 5 Civilians

On Wednesday, a militia attack in Taraba resulted in the deaths of three police officers and five civilians. The violence began around 1 PM, causing panic among residents, including women and children, who fled to nearby bushes to escape.

Sources indicated that eight individuals, including the three police officers, were killed, while several others sustained gunshot wounds. The Taraba State Police Command, led by ASP Victor Mshelizah, received a distress call from residents in Zaki Orbanga, Tordamisa, and Akat Ward about the armed bandit attack in Tse Kwe Village.

A police team, including the Division Police Officer (DPO) of Donga and operatives from the Special Forces, was deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, the armed bandits opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Cpl Raphael Danjuma and PC Ebenez Daniel were confirmed dead, while PC Samuel Bawa was initially declared missing but later found dead. Nutsa Tyav, a 60-year-old chairman of the local vigilante group, was also recovered from the attack.

CP Betti Isokpan Otimenyin expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers and vigilante members.
