Labour Minister Urges NUPENG to Maintain Harmony

During the 6th quadrennial delegate conference of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) held in Lagos, the Nigerian Labour Minister advised the union to sustain industrial harmony within the oil sector. He highlighted the significant contributions of NUPENG in stabilizing the sector and noted the importance of dialogue as a primary tool for engagement rather than confrontation.

The Minister praised the outgoing leadership, particularly Comrade William Akporeha, for their exemplary commitment to improving member welfare and promoting industrial peace. Comrade Olad, who was elected unopposed as the new national officer for a four-year term, pledged to build on the gains of the outgoing administration and strengthen the union's structure.

The Minister also stressed the need for collaboration with government stakeholders to secure better service conditions for members. Akporeha's tenure was noted for achievements such as improved remuneration, the establishment of a modern secretariat, and the introduction of health and life insurance schemes for members.
