Young Athletes Shine at 2nd Pan African School Games

The 2nd Pan African School Games began at the Olympic-size swimming pool at James Hope College in Lekki, where young athletes from more than 11 schools participated in swimming competitions. The three-day event, organised by Seun Akinbohun, Busola Tejumola, and Aderoju Ope-Ajayi, aims to foster athletic excellence and provide educational and cultural opportunities for youth.
Swimmers aged 11 to 15 competed in various categories, including Under-11, Under-13, and Under-15. Aderoju Ope-Ajayi expressed that the organisers' passion for youth sports motivated them to continue despite financial challenges faced during the inaugural edition in 2025.
She acknowledged the vital support from sponsors and parents, highlighting their encouragement for children to engage in sports. The competition was strategically scheduled during the students' half-term break.
The opening day attracted nearly 400 children and over 200 parents. Notable performances included Tioluwanimi Ayo-Biala winning the mixed freestyle relay and Areli Aduroja medaling in breaststroke.
Coach Olugbenga Payne praised the event as a valuable platform for young athletes.
