Bus Collision in Syria Claims 35 Lives, Injures 30

On Saturday, the death toll from a collision between two passenger buses in central-eastern Syria rose to 35, as reported by state media. The SANA news agency cited a Health Ministry official stating that 30 additional individuals were injured in the crash, which took place on the Damascus-Deir Ezzor road.

According to Syria’s Interior Ministry, one of the buses was transporting security personnel, while the other was a civilian bus, though the exact number of security personnel among the casualties was not disclosed. Footage broadcasted by state media showed one bus engulfed in flames, with debris scattered across the highway.

Earlier in the month, a separate incident involving a bus carrying Lebanese pilgrims resulted in five fatalities and numerous injuries when the vehicle overturned in southern Syria’s Daraa province, with authorities suggesting speeding as a potential cause. Syria's infrastructure has suffered significant deterioration due to years of civil war, leaving many roads in urgent need of repairs.
