Reps Urge FG to Enhance Security in Ekiti Communities

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives called on the Federal Government to strengthen security in Ekiti North Federal Constituency due to a rise in kidnappings and violent crimes. The motion, moved by House spokesman Akin Rotimi and supported by Speaker Tajudeen Abba, was prompted by recent alarming incidents, including the abduction, sexual assault, and murder of a middle-aged woman in the Ajoni area, where perpetrators demanded a ransom of 1.5 million Naira.

The House noted that criminal elements are operating near forests in the area, creating widespread fear among residents. Reports indicated that individuals have been held captive for extended periods, with some residents spending weeks in captivity.

The House urged the Nigerian Police Force and relevant security agencies to intensify operations in affected communities and coordinate joint security efforts to dismantle criminal camps in the forests along the Ekiti, Kogi, and Kwara border. The motion mandates the House Committee on Defence, Army, Police Affairs, and National Security Intelligence to engage with security agencies and report back within four weeks.
