APC Chairman Yilwatda Urges Local Leaders to Combat Poverty

On Wednesday, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), called on local government chairmen elected under the party to take initiative in addressing multidimensional poverty. During a meeting with the Progressive Local Government Chairmen Forum at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, Yilwatda stressed the importance of improving access to basic services such as education, healthcare, water, and sanitation.

He highlighted that local governments now possess greater financial resources to meet community needs and urged chairmen to prioritize these interventions. Yilwatda pointed out that primary education and water provision fall under local government responsibilities, emphasizing that the federal government does not manage primary schools or water resources.

He stated that local government chairmen should be held accountable for the level of access to essential services in their areas. In response to the forum's request for support ahead of the next general elections, Yilwatda assured them of the party's priority due to their grassroots engagement.
