Tanko Opposes Muslim-Muslim Ticket, Backs Obi-Kwankwaso

Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, publicly rejected calls for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, distancing himself from comments made by Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Sani Jingir. In a statement released on Tuesday, Tanko emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and equal citizenship, regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds.

He specifically condemned Jingir's remarks that labeled Christians in Nigeria as infidels and advocated for a Muslim-Muslim ticket based on religious identity. Tanko, a Muslim from Kano State, stated that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens and that political decisions should be guided by competence, character, and accountability.

He expressed his support for the proposed ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, viewing it as a platform for a better Nigeria. Jingir, the National Chairman of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa’ikamatis Sunnah, had previously praised President Bola Tinubu for introducing the Muslim-Muslim ticket in 2023 and called for similar arrangements for the 2027 elections.
