ASUU-TSU Challenges Salary Claims of Highest Pay in Nigeria

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Taraba State University (TSU), led by chairman Dr Joshua Garba Mbave, has refuted claims that TSU lecturers are the highest paid in Nigeria. In a statement from Jalingo, Mbave highlighted significant salary disparities, citing that a graduate assistant at TSU earns N237,331.33, while their counterparts at Rivers State University and Delta State University earn N559,577.49 and N503,574, respectively.
For professors, TSU's salary of N1,002,801.94 for CONUASS 07, Step 10 is significantly lower than N3,355,231.10 at Rivers State University. Mbave called on the Taraba State government to settle salary arrears dating back to January 2026 and fully implement the 2025 agreement between the federal government and ASUU.
He also mentioned that the state government had not implemented the 30% National Minimum Wage adjustment and other wage awards, leading to financial strain on university staff. Mbave urged the public to disregard misleading claims about TSU salaries and called for a proper assessment based on verifiable figures.
