NAFDAC Destroys N2.6 Billion in Fake Drugs and Foods

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed fake and substandard products valued at N2.6 billion in Rivers State. The destruction took place in Port Harcourt and involved medicines, tomatoes, cookies, and chemicals that were intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service at Onne Port between 2025 and 2026.
Dr Martins Iluyomade, Chairman of the Federal Task Force on Counterfeit, Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods in Nigeria and NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, disclosed this on behalf of NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye. Iluyomade emphasized the collaboration between NAFDAC and the Nigeria Customs Service, which facilitated the destruction process.
He noted that this was the first phase of the destruction, with more goods expected to be destroyed soon. Iluyomade assured Nigerians of NAFDAC’s commitment to public health and the availability of safe food and effective medicines.
