TCI Calls for Investment to Boost Family Planning in Anambra

TCI, represented by Region Manager Dr. Obasesam Etowa, has called for stronger investment to improve family planning services during a meeting with the Anambra State Commission of Health, led by Dr.

Afam Obidik, in Awka. The organization aims to sustain the uptake of modern contraceptives, address commodity stockouts, and strengthen domestic financing for family planning.

Anambra State has seen significant progress, with the modern contraceptive prevalence rate increasing from 11.7% in 2013 to 22% in 2024. However, the unmet need for family planning has risen to 15%, indicating a critical need for renewed interventions.

Challenges identified include inadequate funding, recurring shortages of family planning commodities, a limited number of trained healthcare providers, and weak coordination among stakeholders. Dr.

Obidik welcomed TCI's support and emphasized the importance of strengthening postpartum family planning counseling to ensure a consistent supply of family planning commodities and enhance healthcare workers' capacity to deliver quality reproductive health services.
