TCN Enhances Kano's Power Supply with Four New Substations

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commissioned four substations in Kano, as announced by Adeola Labzy, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Power. These substations, located at Walalambe, Kumbotso, Dakata, and Dan-Agundi, are designed to strengthen bulk electricity supply to the region's industrial, commercial, and residential sectors.
The Walalambe substation features an 80-megawatt capacity supported by two 40 MVA transformers, while Kumbotso has received additional infrastructure at the 330-kilovolt level, including 100 MVA transformers. Dakata and Dan-Agundi substations have also been upgraded with 100 MVA transformers each at the 132-kilovolt level.
The Walalambe substation serves multiple areas, including the Tokarawa Industrial Area and surrounding communities. Notably, Lee Group has reconnected to the national grid after more than 30 years of operating off-grid.
The Ministry of Power stated that these investments will bolster manufacturing, support small businesses, promote job creation, and enhance household welfare, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
