TCN Declares Force Majeure on Kainji-Birnin Kebbi Line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) declared a force majeure on the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line following the collapse of Tower T367 at 10:44 PM on September 7, 2026. The collapse occurred after the line tripped, and a subsequent reclosure attempt at 11:07 PM also failed.

TCN's linesmen conducted a fault-finding patrol and confirmed the tower's collapse was due to heavy winds and rainstorms. TCN is mobilizing personnel, equipment, and resources to rehabilitate the tower and restore the transmission line as quickly as possible.

The incident has disrupted bulk electricity transmission through the corridor, but TCN has maintained electricity supply to Sokoto via an alternative route through the Talata Mafara–Sokoto corridor. TCN expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to electricity consumers and stakeholders and assured the public of efforts to restore normal service promptly.
