TCN Transfers Interim Power Grid Control to NISO

On June 30, 2026, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) officially handed over an interim power grid control center to the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO). This facility, located at the Gwagwalada 330kV transmission substation, is part of efforts to improve Nigeria's electricity transmission management.

Sule Abdulaziz, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TCN, described the transfer as a significant milestone in strengthening Nigeria's electricity transmission infrastructure. The interim center will serve as a temporary operational base for NISO, enabling efficient and reliable grid operations until the permanent National Control Center (NCC) is completed.

Abdu Moham Bello, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NISO, acknowledged the importance of the handover, emphasizing that it is a critical step toward improving the operational capacity of the nation's electricity grid. The facility will support the deployment of a newly acquired SCADA and telecommunications system for real-time grid management.
