TCN Restores Power to Lagos After Grid Disturbance

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced the restoration of bulk power supply to Lagos after a significant disturbance in the national grid. This incident occurred at approximately 8:19 AM on Thursday, resulting from voltage instability that rapidly spread across the Lagos corridor.

The instability caused the loss of generation stations and subsequent transmission line outages, interrupting electricity supply to Lagos and its environment. TCN's General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated that the national control center promptly instructed several generation stations to reduce output to stabilize the system.

Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, convened an emergency meeting with TCN and the Nigerian Independent System Operator to coordinate urgent restoration efforts. The Benin-Egbin 330kV transmission line was restored, but work continues on the Benin-Omotoso 330kV transmission line to rectify faults and ensure full power supply restoration.

TCN expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to stabilize and strengthen the national grid.
