Federal Government Boosts Kano's Power Supply with New Substations

On October 23, the Federal Government inaugurated four transmission substations in Kano State, adding 544 megawatts of transmission capacity to improve electricity supply for industrial, commercial, and residential areas. The projects were executed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria in collaboration with the Kano State Government, covering the locations of Walalambe, Kumbotso, Dakata, and Dan-Agundi.
A statement from Adeola Labzy, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Power, indicated that the new infrastructure would alleviate pressure on overloaded substations, enhance bulk electricity supply, and meet previously unmet demand. The Walalambe substation contributes 80MW through two 40MVA transformers, while Kumbotso adds 300MVA at the 330kV level.
Dakata and Dan-Agundi each gain an additional 100MVA transformer at the 132kV level. The restoration at Dan-Agundi is particularly notable following a fire incident.
The projects are part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at repositioning the power sector for national development.
