TCN Reports 40 Vandalism Cases in Five Months

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported 40 cases of vandalism from January to May 2023, indicating a reduction compared to previous years. TCN's General Manager, Adeshina Adeonipekun, disclosed this during a sensitization program in the Itori area of Ewekoro Local Government, Ogun State.

In 2022, TCN recorded 276 cases of tower vandalism. The company has implemented community engagement strategies, including annual sensitization campaigns, to strengthen collaboration with local communities and reduce attacks on power infrastructure.

TCN has also hired local vigilantes to protect transmission towers and has established community-based security measures. Adeonipekun noted that the company collaborates with national security agencies to apprehend vandals.

Olu Itori, a local monarch, called for annual awareness campaigns to prevent vandalism, while Olusola Balogun of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps warned residents against aiding vandals, emphasizing the legal consequences of such actions.
