Nigeria Wrestling Federation Establishes Iowa Training Camp

The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, has approved the establishment of a training camp at Iowa State University in the United States to prepare for the World Wrestling Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan, from October 24th to November 1st, 2026. This initiative aims to unite Nigerian wrestlers based in the U.S. for collective training, enhancing their skills and exposure to high-level competition.

The camp will include top Nigerian wrestlers studying in the U.S., home-based wrestlers with valid U.S. visas, and Nigerian-born athletes in the U.S. willing to represent Nigeria. The training program is expected to strengthen ties between domestic and diaspora wrestlers, creating a more competitive national team.

Purity Akuh, Nigeria’s women’s wrestling coach, praised the initiative, highlighting the benefits of modern training facilities and competitive dual meets, including opportunities to train with the U.S. Army wrestling team.

He expressed gratitude to President Adeniyi for his support in facilitating the camp.
