Team Nigeria Arrives for 2026 Africa Athletics Championships

Team Nigeria has officially arrived in Accra, Ghana, for the 2026 Africa Senior Athletics Championships, which will run from today until May 17. The delegation consists of 41 athletes, including 17 males and 24 females, who will compete across 26 track and field events.

The team is technically supervised by Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Technical Director Gabriel Okon, supported by an experienced coaching crew led by National Head Coach Solomon Aliyu. Notable athletes include Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, who is a clear favorite in her signature event.

Other key athletes include Rosemari Chukwuma, the current season's fastest female sprinter, and Chidi Okezi, an experienced quarter miler. The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed confidence in Team Nigeria's chances at the championships, highlighting the presence of strong contenders in various events, including Ruth Usoro in long jump and Oyesad Olatoy in hammer throw.
