24 Kwara Youths Killed Fighting Terrorists in Tragic Attack

At least 24 young men from various villages in Patigi Lade District, Kwara State, were confirmed dead while defending their communities against heavily armed terrorists in July 2025. The victims, mostly local vigilante members, were part of a group of 70 youths who took up arms to confront the attackers during a coordinated assault on Patigi, Chekpan, and Lade communities on July 3, 2025.

This tragic incident left several villages deserted and plunged the area into deep mourning and fear. The attacks targeted local vigilante groups resisting kidnappings and incursions by bandits and terrorists in the region, resulting in the deaths of over 100 people and the kidnapping of at least 70 others across six local government areas in Kwara North.

The affected communities, such as Lafiagi, Patigi, and Tsaragi, have witnessed significant disruptions, with schools closed and residents fleeing to neighboring towns for safety.
