US Military Strikes Iran-Linked Tankers Amid Tensions

On Saturday, the US Central Command (Centcom) announced military strikes on three oil tankers linked to Iran, following alleged attacks by Tehran on two American warships in the Gulf region. Centcom reported that two tankers were "permanently disabled," including one near Kharg Island, while a third vessel was "completely destroyed" in the Gulf of Oman.

Iran's state broadcaster, Irib, confirmed the attacks and quoted a military spokesperson warning of a stronger response if the US continued its strikes. The tanker near Kharg Island reportedly suffered no casualties, with its cooling system extinguishing the fire within an hour.

The two other tankers were evacuated safely, with one being empty and the other carrying oil at the time of the strike. This incident is part of a broader escalation in hostilities, with no credible progress towards a ceasefire or diplomatic resolution reported.

The Gulf of Oman is a strategically significant shipping lane for global oil supplies.
