Tension in Osun as PDP Chairmen Seek Council Control

Tension escalated in Osun State as local government chairmen from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) sought to reclaim council secretariats after a Federal High Court judgment affirmed their tenure. Oladel Bamiji, the deputy spokesperson for the Osun State governor, stated that the PDP chairmen would resume their duties, asserting their legal recognition.

However, Adegok Ogunsola, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), accused the PDP chairmen of attempting to forcibly take over the secretariats. The APC chairmen filed an application for a stay of execution regarding the court's judgment.

Police were deployed to manage the situation, which involved discussions with PDP officials who were denied access to the secretariats. Ogunsola criticized the state government's interpretation of the judgment and warned against enforcing what he termed a "wrong judgment." The matter remains contentious as the validity of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for February 22, 2025, is also under scrutiny.
