Armed Thugs Attack Amaechi in Hometown Visit Attempt

On March 6, 2026, tension escalated in Rivers State when armed men allegedly attempted to prevent former Minister of Transport Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi from entering his hometown, Ubima, in the Ikwerr Local Government Area. As Amaechi's convoy approached the community, reports indicated that suspected political thugs blocked the main road and opened fire to halt his movement.

Security personnel assigned to Amaechi intervened, engaging the attackers and allowing the convoy to continue its journey to Ubima. Videos circulating on social media depicted armed men positioned along the road, with gunshots heard as residents fled for safety, creating panic in the area.

The incident occurred shortly before Amaechi's planned visit, which was part of a political mobilization effort ahead of the 2027 general elections. The attack is believed to be linked to rival political groups, although no group has claimed responsibility.

This incident follows a previous attack on ADC members during a sensitization program in Igwuruta in February 2026.
