Gunmen Attack Rotimi Amaechi's Convoy in Rivers State

On a Friday, gunmen attacked the convoy of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi after they reportedly set fire to an African Democratic Congress (ADC) office in Ubima, Ikwerr Local Government Area, Rivers State. The incident occurred around 12:15 PM as Amaechi was visiting his hometown for an electoral registration event.

Suspected political thugs mounted a roadblock, attempting to turn back vehicles believed to be carrying ADC supporters. The assailants had previously stormed the area on Thursday night, setting the ADC ward office ablaze and firing sporadically, with bullets hitting the gate of Amaechi's family house.

When Amaechi's convoy arrived, security personnel engaged the armed men in a gun duel, forcing them to flee into nearby bushes. Amaechi urged calm among his supporters and warned against retaliation, emphasizing the importance of peace.

He commended the swift response of security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), and called for the identification and prosecution of those responsible for the arson.
