TETFund Launches Autism Care Initiative Across Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Education, via the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), is addressing the challenges of autism care in Nigeria by establishing international-standard autism centres across the country's six geopolitical zones. This initiative aims to enhance access to specialized care, improve research and training, and provide better support for individuals with autism and their families.
A significant step was taken with the inauguration of the National Committee for the Establishment of International Standard Autism Centres in Abuja. Arch Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, stated that the initiative would build on the fund's Special High Impact Intervention for medical schools, which focuses on upgrading infrastructure and equipment for training in various medical disciplines.
The proposed centres will offer early diagnosis, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, research, and professional training, while also promoting public awareness and supporting families. The initiative recognizes that effective autism care requires trained professionals, accessible diagnostic services, and a responsive healthcare system.
