FG Launches 82 Academic Textbooks by Nigerian Scholars

On Wednesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Dr. Tunji Alausa, unveiled 82 academic textbooks authored by Nigerian scholars in Abuja.

This initiative, part of TETFund's book development intervention project, aims to strengthen teaching and learning in tertiary institutions and address the shortage of locally authored textbooks. The project seeks to reduce Nigeria's dependence on foreign textbooks, which has put pressure on foreign exchange and discouraged indigenous authorship.

Dr. Alausa emphasized the government's commitment to quality education and academic excellence, particularly in science and technology fields.

TETFund has established a technical advisory group since 2009 to develop frameworks for implementing book development programs. The initiative has already published 202 academic textbooks, with 400,000 copies distributed nationwide, and digital versions made available online.

The unveiling event also honored the late Valeri Young Harri for his contributions to academia, with Aminu Bello Masari stressing the importance of knowledge application for future generations.
