TETFund Launches Committee for Tertiary Lab Utilization

On Tuesday, TETFund inaugurated a seven-member advisory committee to drive the establishment and effective utilization of multipurpose laboratories in tertiary institutions across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. The committee is chaired by Chris Maiyaki, the former acting executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Arch Sonni Echono, the executive secretary of TETFund, stated that the committee is tasked with providing strategic guidance on the design, equipment specifications, deployment, and sustainable management of the laboratories to ensure maximum impact. The committee will review and update the equipment list to account for rapid technological changes and prevent obsolescence.

It will also assess the adequacy of management frameworks and make additional recommendations for the long-term operational sustainability of the laboratories, including industry collaboration and revenue generation. Echono emphasized that sustaining economic growth relies on innovative, research-driven solutions supported by adequate infrastructure.

The event is part of the current administration's legacy to build a research culture in the nation.
