TETFund Essential for Nigeria's Higher Education Sector

The Civil Society Organisation (CPA) has stated that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is crucial for the sustainability of Nigeria's higher education sector. During a virtual press conference, CPA's executive director, Olufemi Lawson, presented findings from an independent assessment that highlighted TETFund's indispensable role in the development of universities, polytechnics, and colleges across Nigeria.

From 2011 to 2024, TETFund disbursed ₦1.8 trillion to public tertiary institutions, with universities receiving ₦918 billion, polytechnics ₦461 billion, and colleges ₦458 billion. The report indicated that TETFund's interventions have led to the execution of 152,000 infrastructure projects nationwide, significantly improving academic environments.

Despite economic challenges, TETFund continues to support various programs aimed at enhancing learning conditions and research capabilities. CPA commended TETFund's management led by Sonni Echono and urged beneficiary institutions to utilize funds prudently to avoid project abandonment.
