Texas Tech's Adeshina Aims for NCAA High Jump Record

Texas Tech's track and field coach We Kittlei has expressed confidence that Nigerian high jumper Temitop Adeshina can break the NCAA women's high jump record. Adeshina recently won her third consecutive Big 12 indoor high jump title on Friday, February 10, 2023, by clearing 1.96m, which equals the second-best mark in Texas Tech's history and sets a new meet record, surpassing the previous mark of 1.93m set by Akela Jones in 2016.

She is now the first woman in Big 12 history to win three consecutive indoor high jump titles. Adeshina faced strong competition from Kansas State's Shari Eno, who finished second with a mark of 1.93m.

Adeshina currently holds the top NCAA women's high jump mark of 2026 at 1.96m, ranking her fourth globally. Kittlei believes Adeshina can clear the 2m mark soon, emphasizing her potential to break the collegiate record held by Brigetta Barrett of the University of Arizona, who cleared 1.99m on May 11, 2013.

Adeshina has broken the Nigerian national record three times and first cleared 1.97m at the NCAA Championship in June 2024.
