Murtala Muhammed Airport to Undergo ₦712 Billion Upgrade

Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos is set for a major overhaul, with plans to shut down Terminal 1 completely by February 2026. The ₦712 billion investment aims to modernize the airport, which currently handles nearly four million passengers annually.

The renovation will address long-standing issues such as baggage handling, security lapses, and congestion. A new baggage handling system and biometric screening for access control will be introduced to enhance passenger experience.

The redesign will focus on improving the flow of human motion and luggage, eliminating bottlenecks, and creating a welcoming environment. Terminal 2 will also be expanded to accommodate increased international traffic, including wide-body aircraft.

The project aims to provide a modern and efficient airport experience, reflecting Nigeria's status as West Africa's commercial and financial capital.
